I was scheduled to present an essay about Joe at a conference in Bruges in March of 2019. I decided to arrive in Belgium a few days early. I had never been to Belgium. I looked around for a place to visit of spiritual significance, a place for pilgrimage, and I came upon Beauraing, a little town around 50 miles to the south of Brussels near the French border. The Mother of Jesus had reportedly appeared there to five children in 1932-33. I had heard about these apparitions, but I knew very little about them.
